Uwe Duettmann

about
After studying »Visual Arts« in Düsseldorf and subsequent studies at the HFBK in Berlin, Uwe Duettmann spent several years as longterm assistant of Hans Hansen and Annie Leibovitz. He then started his own career as a photographer, shooting editorial assignments for magazines such as Tempo, Stern, Rolling Stone, Vogue, L'Uomo Vogue and Elle... After more than 20 years in the business, Uwe Duettmann's portfolio reveals a wild crazy-quilt of images that raise an eyebrow or sparkle a smile, featuring everything from serious portraiture and glossy auto shots to bizarre, otherworldly scenarios that could only be conceived by the wackiest of minds.

»If you look at Irving Penn, he's not thinking of shooting landscapes or people or still life,« he notes. »It's a bit the same with me. I don't care about what I'm doing, it's more about how I can express myself in different ways.« Featuring everything in his impressive career, the German-born photographer has been adorned with every major award in the advertising community, from the »Cannes Lion« to the »ADC New York«.

No matter what the project, Duettmann remains the consummate collaborator. His ultra-easygoing manner reveals no hint of the ego, yet he maintains the confidence of someone who knows he can get the job done. »All I need is good direction,« he says. »It's like jumping off a plane in a parachute. Even if the target is just one meter by one meter, I'll land on it.« On a more personal level, there's a reason why Duettmann's photographs often inspire a grin, even a laugh. »I'm not a nurse, but I'd love to help people enjoy life better,« he says. »It's bizarre working in advertising and wanting to achieve that, but I try to bring the human aspect into it.«

Jean-Baptiste Courtier

about
Jean-Baptiste Courtier, a photographer originally from a small town in the north of France, who is now living and working between London & Paris. Well known for his project ‘Natation Synchronisee’, a photo story depicting scenes of what we initially understand as synchronized swimmers in unexpected serene landscapes, Jean-Baptiste has since continued to create fantasy that sits between the imaginary and real world. Taking influence from the world of film and music, Jean-Baptiste brings elements of each art form into his poetic & rhythmic series. He populates each image with objects or acts which disrupt the normal order, transforming what we first see as an everyday scenario in to something more seductive. After moving from the modeling industry to photography, Jean-Baptiste has since exhibited in a number of galleries worldwide, leading to him being voted amongst the top five photographers in France this year. Clients to date include… BBC, Eurostar, Nike, SFR and Smart.

Stefan Ruhmke

about
Stefan Ruhmke was born in the former GDR in 1979. His first Practica VLC 2 (an GDR manufactured camera of Pentacon) he received as a present by his father being eight years old. Stefan Ruhmke’s early photographs where free of technical procedures and took all into focus what he liked – the Baltic Sea, hunted animals of his grandfather, a Trabant, the neighbourgirl, his grandmother knitting. Grown up in the grey of East-Berlin he was 10 years old when the wall fell down. He began his studies at Lette Verein/Berlin at the age of 24, after modelling for several photographers and in commercials on his own. Stefan Ruhmke’s motifs did not change much since his childhood – only the new learned technical skills turned his pictures into a colourful world, not only because the grey of the former east has disappeared. Stefan Ruhmke is specialised in portraits and staged photography where he evolves a certain taste in poetic sceneries topped with a trifle of dry humour. He tempts to bring out private moments and the hint of secrets in real characters, which he choses mostly for being his object.

about the artwork
ABSTRACT BEAUTY My work is characterised by the play with abstraction and anonymisation of the human body with techniques of collage, painting, and drawing. The visual results can be described as a search to the inner self, by reflecting and thinking about my own body, mistakes and identities. My illustrations and collages are often determined by a figurative motif that dissolves in the progress of working – sometimes modified to complete abstraction. All subjects are inspired by personal stories, experiences and memories. Beauty and diversity is an important aspect which drives me in my work as an artist. Most of my pieces show bodies or fragments of them. The human body is becoming my new projection surface here.

Sven Jacobsen

about
SVEN JACOBSEN. PHOTOGRAPHER, BORN IN 1969, 1997 EXAM IN ARCHITECTURE, since 1999 FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER. Sven Jacobsen´s photography is distinguished by a strong draw back to more simplicity and awareness. It is a radical demand to preserve genuine truth in an over-engineered world, which he strives to capture in his pictures. He tries to find bliss in the simplest things and aesthetics of the moment, in order to render a mood visible. He is mostly concerned with emotionality, lightness and authenticity. For him it is important finding the essence of things, going back to ones roots, back home, embracing imperfections and spreading warmth and truth. This is what he portrays in his emotional and warm picture language, which defies the modern day need for perfection. His images are something of an homage to a world that is very close and beckons daily and the loveliness that can be found in it.

about the artwork
WORLD OF TODAY   sven jacobsen   photographic project since 2014. Wherever I am in the world I spend time capturing the unscripted moments of everyday life I understand this as a radical mission to preserve the love of truth and awareness   Simply trying to locate bliss in the simple things, in the aesthetics of the moment, in order to render a mood visible, I focus on what is beautiful and tragic about our times…so close and so ordinary   It is said that beauty can be manufactured, but it already exists nearly everywhere...even in tragic situations...in the spirit of the viewer and in the detail   What one does and what one has matters little compared to how one feels with it

about
Monica Menez is an award-winning fashion photographer and filmmaker from Stuttgart, Germany. Thus, she fulfills her artistic intention to present fashion in an appealing and unique way.
After having won various awards for her photographs, she received the La Jolla Fashion Film Award in 2011 for “Most Creative Concept”, followed by the ASVOFF 5 Award in 2012 for “Best Art Direction”. Elena Iv-skaya

about
Diving into the world of internationally renowned Russian photographer Elena Iv-skaya means opening the doors of a minimalist and stylised world in which sublime female models play freely to the camera. Born in 1977 in Khabarovsk, the artist began her photography career in 2013, a year after moving to Reunion Island. The colours and contrasts that fill her photographs are most likely influenced by her unusual daily life. It all began with a still life taken one evening on her terrace with the help of an old reflex which she would later train with. An artistic director in advertising, her husband found this first attempt interesting and suggested she continue her artistic adventure, leading Elena Iv-skaya to specialise in fashion photography. As she gradually gained more experience, she started to collaborate with prestigious models, agencies and publications such as New African Woman magazine that advocates beauty in all its forms.

Lochner | Carmichael

about
Lochner and Carmichael is a new collaborative project dedicated to producing outstanding photographic images. They are Jillian Lochner, who has worked as a commercial photographer for many years on brand campaigns – and Andrew Carmichael who trained at Goldsmiths and then the Royal College of Art before working as an installation artist for 10 years. Working as Lochner and Carmichael they have quickly developed a collaborative way of working. Andrew develops concepts, builds sets, invents contraptions and makes props. Jillian brings her years of photographic knowledge to perfecting the photo-aesthetic side of the work both in the studio and in post-production. Andrew’s strengths are his calm nature, a deep understanding of perspective and composition, and a love for problem solving. There is a healthy tension in the collaboration between Andrew who always wants to experiment more and test new ideas and Jillian, who wants to rein in and complete the project. Andrew’s fascination with the extremes of light, dark and shadows challenge Jillian’s trademark use of a more restricted tonal palette. These tensions in the collaboration help create images that are more than just a sum of the two peoples work.

about the artwork
-----------------"naked"  ---  In nude photography, as a rule, efforts are made by photographer and model to capture a moment of exquisite beauty. It is meant to be intense, elegant, graceful or strong. In most cases, the image caters to some ideal. Unflattering positions are avoided, scars and bruises are concealed, wrinkles and blemishes covered or touched up.  Thomas Rusch is looking for another form of expression in his exhibition „nackt.“ His photos show people beyond the boundaries of classical poses and beauty ideals. He asks his models to ignore him, to take positions that reflect nothing more than the feeling of the moment. He captures somnambulist moments full of relaxation and energy, resting, and slow movements.  These portraits show all different bodies that don’t always correspond to any popular or common beauty ideal. They say: nothing is finished, nothing is forever and nothing is perfect. It is the very „blemishes“ that make beauty complete. Thomas Rusch lives and works in Berlin and Hamburg, is 55 years old, and loves his Kuhle Wampe.

Kai Bastard

about
BASTARD TURPIN is a image making partnership of Kai Bastard and Bill Turpin. Their projects exemplify an image’s ability to not only draw an audience’s attention, but tell a story, coax self-reflection, and inspire critical thinking. They focus on creating controversial social messaging embodying a cross section of human observations surrounding sexual, political and emotional issues. These surreal, at times illusory images both shock and amuse, breaking through the everyday noise promoting discussion and encourage debate.

Kai BASTARD looks at the playful interlude between reality and surrealism. Bringing together individual elements that tell a richer visual story. Bastard’s work explores blending traditional creative direction with the digital space to create interactive and emotionally engaging experiences. Bill TURPIN interests lie in provocative and emotional hand crafted visuals. Turpin is able to push the boundaries of the viewer putting them into a state of self reflection, denial or shock.

about the artwork
FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION The human figure is one of the most enduring themes in visual arts. Taking the conventional appreciation of the human body, we look at deconstructing this standard perspective and reconstructs body shape / posture into ambiguous sculptural form. In today’s society individuals are starting to fight the conventional boxes that we are required to fit into, that don't hold up within today's mindset. With a more connected global society via the internet, individuals that were left on the edge of society having to hide their true identity are now coming forward to reveal the gender they wish to be perceived The deflated state and stillness of our subject, reflects the internal conflict and emotional state they feel the outside world reflects on them.

Leute.   :-)   Danke!!!

Our Idea was to shoot a not typical beauty editorial with textures. since the last month, beauty is a new field for  me and my portfolio and work. A lot of years, it was really something i dont want to do if it is possible but since some month i really found my love for beauty shootings. and most interesting it is to work with texture.  so here we go. we had an amazing team, wonderful day with a lot of fun.  To give the used textures an extra kick, i worked with an analog camera and ad textures from the same kind on top of prints from our digital shooting and for a small special effekt we filmed the scenerie and worked on some giffs, to get the feeling yoyu can touch the materials and feel them. i am really happy, how it works out with the mix from the textures we use in the shooting direct and the textures i add now in the second round. sometimes it needs a longer view, to see which textures is really in his face and what is added on top of the prints. big thak you to the great team. we had the funny working titel LADY DI
