BMW VISION M NEXT - A COLLABORATION BETWEEN PHOTOGRAPHY, CGI CARS, STUDIO IMAGES, 360°IMAGING AND SHORT ANIMATIONS THE POWER OF ATTRACTION.
Girls can design, drive, repair and photograph cars just as boys can. A girl can do everything exactly as a boy can. Good, successful, go-get-it girls prove they’re just like boys. – stop! – What?? Who says girls have to prove they’re the same as anyone who is not like them? A girl photographs cars with her eyes, her emotions, her creativity. Just because that does not look like the photos of photographer Y, who has already rocked off X – Mercedes and BMW campaigns, does not mean it ’s not relevant. Are not over 50% of potential customers women? Should not at least as much advertising be created by women as well? ‚Because I’m a girl‘ means to me, taking photos of things I see because I’m who I am, not because I want them to look like the latest campaign of other men. And yet, the temptation is always great to fit into a known scheme. Do not appear too soft, don´t show too much emotion or speak too high. Actually it should read ‚Because I am who I am‘, but ‚girl‘ describes me well enough.

about
Dan Burn-Forti has a wry way of looking at the world that gives his work a spirit and a sense of humour that can be rare in contemporary photography.
His animal portraits are hugely popular and he has the ability to find an original twist when photographing Hollywood legends, political figures and sports stars. In his documentary-style shots of everyday scenes, Dan captures the quiet eccentricity that seems quintessentially British. He is drawn to the strange and the ridiculous, to people, customs and situations that are bizarre, pompous or both.
Dan tailors his approach to the individual commission to make sure he doesn’t repeat himself. That might mean immersing himself in personal work, playing with the tension between formal and unguarded in his portraits or trying to create pockets of spontaneity within the framework of his advertising commissions.Throughout it all, his instinctive feel for light and colour and his leftfield eye for happenstance elevates even seemingly straightforward images into something very special.
about the artwork
Dan Burn Forti’s Global Campaign for Mercedes-Benz B-Class.
In his own words: ‘We shot this splendid set of sun-soaked marvels in Madrid (lovely city, needs a landmark) and the Costa Del Sol last summer over two legs. Apart from being super excited at the prospect of shooting such a beast of a clever campaign, I was also initially a little daunted by the complex techniques required. As it was a brand new, unseen version of an existing car, we were not allowed to shoot the hero models on location, for fear of Jose Bloggs posting a picture on Instagram or what not and ruining the surprise. Instead we had a stand in model for the location shoots, and the real ones to shoot at a top secret, James Bond meets Only Fools and Horses mountain hideaway studio location, which came complete with 24-hour, SAS style security bods and a Ye Olde English pub. My initial trepidation was based on getting the angles, light, reflections etc exactly measured on location so that when we shot the real hero cars at the studio, we could perfectly replicate them, so that they would seamlessly drop into the location shots. But as soon as we began on day one, I realised all of that was purely logical and very straight forward. In fact, it’s a piece of cake this car photography. With the lovely production skills of Barrio, some splendid help from the Lizard Q rig, Jonas the pixel wizard of Recom Farmhouse and the charming marvels that are Antoni, the whole thing was a joy and, with my newfound knowledge and pair of 50m tape measures, I now just want to shoot loads of tasty cars.’

WE! shoot it
about the artwork
“One day, I want to...” is often how ideas start out that never seem to happen. But not for photographer duo Michael Compensis and Thomas von Salomon from WE! shoot it.
“One day, I want to drive to France in a Citroën DS,” is what Thomas thought, who had just fulfilled his childhood dream with this extravagant automobile. “You know, you'd have to photograph everything analog on classic 4x5-inch film, preferably Polaroid Type 55.” Michael added. No sooner said than done. The duo drove off the very next day. The film has unfortunately been discontinued for more than ten years, but on a little detour to Düsseldorf, they managed to find some old stock. The next day after dreaming the “One day, I want to...” dream, the duo jumped into a Citroën DS 21 Pallas with a trunk full: 60 sheets of film, an old Linhof Technika, a couple of buckets of sodium sulphide, and wetting agents – off to France!
The duo discovered all locations on the way, without even knowing in the morning where they would end up in the evening. Photos were taken in front of the bed and breakfast, the restaurant for dinner, and finally, at the beautiful start and finish lines of the former Grand Prix circuit of Reims Gueux! To make the series complete, the two photographers met up with Melina Johannsen @vintagebeautyglam, who not only modeled for them but also contributed the proper 60s styling with lots of love.

The light weight bull
This spread was shot with a "point and shoot" technique to create more emotional driving and performance shots with a maximum of agility in it. The twillight was chosen to give that dark brutal powered car even more intensity than it already
got. No Rig no virtual Rig. Sand was thrown by the skills of the precission driver and the power of the car! Postprodcution only for look and feel.
Shot and produced in a red desert two hrs away from Dubai.
